Band Bio: Vancouver Island based band Current Swell is 4 guys on a mission. Scott Stanton, Davers Lang, Louis Sadava, and Chris Petersen have a unique style of music that is deeply rooted in folk and blues, reggae inspired, and rock driven. the musical recipe is equal parts praire and coastal, blending a couple of acoustic guitars, a lap slide, harmonica, drums, bass, and 3 vocal mics. This formula amounts to a tightly polished act and is pushing the boundary of what people know as "new" music.
Looking back on the last 4 years, Current Swell has seen massive independent success. the release of "So I Say" in 2005 gained the group the instant momentum they needed to become one of the hottest new acts in British Columbia. That success garnered "what started out as a surf trip..." throughout indonesia and australia which "...turned into a full time musical mission. Playing tons of shows, earning many fans and writing like crazy." said Lang. When the guys returned , they commited to a relentless touring schedule to establish themselves across canada. The boys eventually found time between tours to lay down their next batch of songs and in June 2007, "Trust Us Now" was released. Just one year later they went back to work in the studio and they're 3rd album is due for a February 09 release on a Western Canadian Tour with Australia's Ash Grunwald.
Early in their musical career they became known by sharing the stage with acts like Xavier Rudd and Canadian rock-reggae titans Bedouin Soundclash as well as doing a Western Canadian tour fronting Aussie band "The Beautiful Girls" and more recently they've appeared multiple times at The Commodore in Vancouver and crossed the country again, this time with Vancouver's Daniel Wesley. Displaying a die hard work ethic, these young men have headlined multiple national tours in the last 3 years. Current Swell takes pride in growing as artists and songwriters in this ever changing business. When opening for Xavier Rudd at Victoria's Royal Theatre, the boys elected to do a sit-down, foot stomping set for the sold out crowd of about 1500. "Its nice to show people that we are musicians. We're not just a rock band, but a group of guys that started out jamming Bob Dylan tunes in the back yard in this same fashion", said Stanton of that experience. With a widely growing fanbase of people 16 to 60 alike, current swell has been dubbed as "Ben Harper meets sublime" by some. sitting back and listening to these guys jam its easy to picture their musical heros (from legends like "the allman bros." and "the band" to "the tragically hip" and "toots and the maytals") but when asked to describe their sound, it's distinctly 'swell'.
