Band Bio: STAND began gigging the Dublin clubs in the mid 90’s. In 1998 "Questions" from their debut LP went Top 10 on the Irish charts.
Awed by the prospect of limitless venues, they left for the US on a one way fare in 2001. With no shortage of gumption to match talent, they took a room in the Bronx, bought a used van and knocked on every stage door of NYC.
Using New York as home base, they released three studio albums, garnered praise from national press, and played all along the American highways. Saturday at the Viper Room, Sunday at the pub.
"Bottom line? On our own," explains Neil, "and we needed to fund gear, studio time, mixing, mastering and feeding five lads. We sold everything but the spare tire from the van. The record execs were all hiding from the executioner and we took steps forward."
The band returned to Dublin last year to recuperate from the pressure of near constant gigging. "We knew how to play. Getting away from each other," adds singer Alan Doyle, "was as important as anything at that point."
The band soon found themselves in the same room again for all the right reasons. The writing process for the songs that would become their latest LP "100,000 Ways to Harvest Hope" commenced." Everyone had good songs," according to Doyle, "but we needed to be together to put life to them. Let's face it, that's what we do, it’s who we are."
The band returned to the Buffalo, NY studio of the Goo Goo Dolls last June to track 10 songs in 9 days. "Trust me, when you have to pay for everything, you go in ready. It's live in the studio, with an overdub here and there. There's an urgent, massive energy to it," claims guitarist David Walsh.
Produced by Marc Swersky and mixed by Mark Needham (Chris Isaak, The Killers, Fleetwood Mac). "Marc sent the track from his first day in the studio and I was blown away. No pun intended, these guys stand out to me as a breath of fresh rock and roll air."
“100,000 Ways to Harvest Hope” arrives March 1st, 2010.
