Band Bio: An UNSET Biography
Since March of 2006, UNSET has been rapidly climbing the ladder of the hard rock industry. This San Diego, California based Quintet created an original sound that is new yet very familiar, hard and yet widely appealing. Their debut album, Remains Of A Dream, is their first installment of music which is an accumulation of true to life imagery through sound. Each song has its own story. Each melody has its own voice.
UNSET started as a small idea that snowballed into becoming a once in a lifetime journey through the rock music industry. In early 2005 Vocalist Frank W. Torres and guitarist Ian Alexander separated from their former bands and decided to work together. After writing a few songs together they realized the limitless potential and recruited friend and former band mate Chris Coulson to fill the bass position, known for his original style and energetic stage performances. Shortly after, guitarist Steve Gilliland was chosen for his fast, hard hitting riffs and screaming technical guitar solos reminiscent of a young Zakk Wylde. The search for a drummer was long but eventually led to the discovery of hard rock drummer Kurt Otto who was in the band for only one month before playing UNSET’s first public performance.
Within their first year UNSET caught the attention of music fans and musicians alike creating a very loud buzz in the San Diego music scene. Jam packed venues became commonplace, with record breaking draws in several different local hard rock hot spots. In particular they caught the attention of nationally acclaimed rock guitarist and producer Mikey Doling (Snot/ Soulfly/ Invitro) as well as NFL star Kyle Turley. Both being music enthusiasts themselves, Doling and Turley came together to create GRIDIRON RECORDS and signed UNSET to their new label in April of 2007. Once officially added to the GRIDIRON RECORDS roster, UNSET was sent out to record their debut album REMAINS OF A DREAM with producer Mikey Doling and recording engineer Brad Dujomivic at Hancock Park Studios in Los Angeles, California.
The official CD release party for REMAINS OF A DREAM was held in their hometown of San Diego, CA on October 31st 2008. Unfortunately, due to family priorities, it would be the last show Ian Alexander would play with UNSET. Relations between Alexander and the group remain positive and supportive as UNSET quickly picked up new guitarist MATT WANAMAKER (formerly of the Suburban Noize Records Punk/ power Metal Group MOWER) The current members are already working on new music for UNSET's follow up record.
UNSET’s REMAINS OF A DREAM is a journey through snapshots in time. Each subject is very real and true to life. Topics such as addiction, spiritual belief, self perception, affirmation, love, lust and loss are all explored.
In summation, the introductory album REMAINS OF A DREAM by UNSET portrays a sincerity that borders on confession, an emotion that borders on madness and an originality that borders on art.
