Sign this Petition - Save the Great Lakes
For all the talking that British Petroleum does about being a company that is moving "beyond petroleum" they certainly aren't beyond polluting our Great Lakes. BP is expanding their oil refinery in Whiting, Indiana at a cost of $3.8 billion, but somehow can't find a place to build a water treatment facility to deal with the increased waste. Instead they got approval from Indiana regulators to dump up to 1,500 more pounds of ammonia and 5,000 more pounds of toxic sludge daily into Lake Michigan. Ammonia acts as a catalyst for fish-killing algae blooms and the plant's sludge is chock-full of concentrated mercury, selenium, and other toxic heavy metals. This is unacceptable. To stop BP's plan, we at INPIRG are joining with other groups around the Great Lakes region in a campaign called "Beyond Preposterous." Our first step is to let EPA Regional Administrator Mary Gade know that we won't stand for more toxic dumping in Lake Michigan, and that she should stop the permits BP has received.

Why I support this cause

Hello? Is anyone home? This planet is slowly and surely dying and why?Because of us !Some of us unfortually think it's accpetable to cut down trees, pollute, dump, and bash our planet. Some of us humans just don't care.To blind to care or see the truth.People we need to wake up and take responsibilty for our actions and realize the planet is paying for our crimes. The matter of global warming is a cause for real worry. It isn't something to be ignored and for those of you who do choose to ignore it or say it doesn't exist are just plain ignorant.Look around you !The latest heatwaves and chaotic weather are olny pieces of the so obivous evidence.Look at all the things that have happened in the past three years.Yea I think it's a real reason to worry. It isn't just a hoax. Our eviroment can olny handle so much of our messes.Don't make it worse. For those of you who are skeptical about whether being "aware" or not .I have big news for you! It's not fake.Global warming and the damage done is more than a threat. It is unfortually becoming our future.Unless we take action our beautiful planet is going to rot and decay like every other thing we as humans have neglected. You love life right? You love breathing? You love the summers and cool autumn days?Guess what if something isn't done now this will all change. All of it.Don't be afraid to stand up and take charge.Do something even if it's small.A tiny thing can make all the difference.

I support sustainability and the environment because if the planet is healthier, if our products are healthier, we will be healthier.

We need to make a big change to save the environment. What other planet are you going to live on?

Every other issue pales in the face of this one. Without a functioning, stable environment, there will be no one left to argue about abortion, education in America, or any of it. Environmental Issues influence every single aspect of our society without exception. A healthy environment and knowledge about how the environment works is essential for the evolution of society and the economy.

Take hold of this word and spread the idea of helping mother earth! we need the world to survive

I took AP Environmental Science in my freshman year of high school, and it definitely changed my view and perspective on everything.

Why this cause matters...

Be a BIG Sustainable person!!!Be wise at using all your stuff!!!
