affirmative action is really helpful for some and completely necessary, but right now it's being overdone. some kids growing up under the same circumstances as minorities don't get he benefits and sometimes they deserve it more. equality is not equality if it's just changing who gets teh leg up. no one should get a leg up everyone should earn wat they get
Sure, maybe affirmative action is flawed and a perfect system may be impossible, but throwing babies out with bath water isn't the answer either. The fact is some people are born in with the mental skills for success but not the social position to make use of that natural ability. Think of how much intellectual potential is wasted without proper cultivation. This is why affirmative action programs are necessary. If not for the good of the individual than the good of society on the whole (yea, if that was a selling point, you're kinda self serving) Especially with college admission processes. Let's face it an SAT score of 1300 from Orange County might be higher than the 1000 from West Baltimore, but I doubt the kid from B-more had the additional hours of prep and coaching if any at all.
Why this cause matters...
This cause matters because we need to ensure that future generations are ensured a fair chance that our parents fought for and even died for. Affirmative action ensures that the minority, whoever they are compete on a level playing field.
